Talking at party last night:
How many of our friends are well-informed about issues of consent, etc.? Especially in situations when they are not sober?
Answer: probably not nearly as informed as they should be.
As for solutions: sitting everybody down for a conversation about date rape would probably go over like a ton of bricks. When is there ever a good time to talk about heavy stuff without forcing it on people?
I don’t know a good answer for that one. But what we did decide, as a way to empower ourselves: we’ll have a workshop for practicing yelling. Apparently I am not the only one who worries about not being able to scream when I need to (like the familiar nightmare). Girls aren’t supposed to be loud, which is something I’m working on, myself. So, we’ll create a safe space where we exercise our voices and practice being loud.
Holler back if yr interested.

I know this is an old, old entry - but can we do this? I want to make this happen. (sorry i'm not stalking you i promise, just reading through yr blog)
Oh man, so old!
So, as it happens ... we actually did do a screaming workshop thing. It turned into us banging on drums and yelling into microphones, called it GIRL NOISE TIME. That, in turn, became POST POST FUCK FUCK, an all-girl noise outfit. Which ultimately led to Ladyfest. Fruits of our labors in a real way! But if you are down, we should totally do more screaming workshops. I love them.
